Being Peace Amidst Chaos and Confusion

CLEAR HEART SANGHA UPDATE

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well and happy and enjoying the calm before the storm.

This is a reminder that there is a meeting scheduled for Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Robert and Monica were very generous to offer to host this meeting at their home. They have asked me to send out all of the information with the understanding that if there is a question about whether the meeting will happen, they have invited you all to use the contact information they have shared below….and give them a call. There will be sitting and listening to one of Thich Nhat Hanh’s talks. It should be wonderful…weather permitting! A deep bow to the Van Horns for their generosity.

Here at Moonstone beach, we are making preparations for the storm. If we get the hurricane, the National Guard usually has us evacuate, so I could be out of touch for a bit….depending on the amount of damage that happens to our home. So if you are trying to reach me, please be patient.

with much love, many hugs and best wishes for all of us to weather all of the storms of life together,

Joanne

Please remember that you can hear Thay’s talks from his latest retreats at Plum Village Online Monastery pvom.org. And Karina from the East Side Sangha sent out this note and link: “I just watched this lovely conversation with Thay and environmentalist David Suzuki and the mayor of Vancouver. It is so subtle, but so encouraging.”

Our other dear friend Elsa has been transferred to hospital in Boston, so that she can be treated by her Dana Farber doctors. Please continue to hold Elsa and her whole family in your prayers and hearts and send lots of love their way.

MIND TAMERS UPDATE

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. —Vincent Van Gogh

I don’t do great things. I do small things with great love. —Mother Theresa

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well and happy and enjoying this lovely evening and doing small things with great love.

We just returned from our trip to the Vancouver Retreat with Thay. It was wonderful to see him doing so well and giving very good talks. (I think they are available at PVOM.org. ) However, we were pretty much completely out of touch with phones and computers…so my apologies if I have not gotten back to you yet. I was hoping to get caught up today, but my computer was not cooperating…I just got it up and running…and it is late…so this will be brief.

I just wanted to remind you that we will be meeting August 25 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church in West Barrington. I hope that you will be able to be with us. We will have the opportunity to stop and enjoy each other. We will sit, walk and sit. I will give a short talk about some of the things that I learned on our trip and we will enjoy some Dharma sharing. I hope you will be able to be with us.

Please put Saturday, September 24th on your calendar. There will be a Silent Walking Meditation to begin Waterfire that evening…to commemorate the International Day of Peace. We will meet at the Basin at 6:30 and begin the walk by 7:30. Please come and bring your friends. We can make a powerful statement by being peace together!

In the meantime, please remember to rest in the awareness that all any of us has is the present moment…enjoy it!

with much love and the sweet summer lullaby of the cicadas for you,
Joanne
