Let it Snow!

“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”
― Mary Oliver

“The weather is nature’s disruptor of human plans and busybodies.
Of all the things on earth, nature’s disruption
is what we know we can depend on,
as it is essentially
uncontrolled
by men.”
― Criss Jami

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well and warm and cozy.

This is just a reminder that depending on the weather, there will be a gathering on Sunday at 6 PM at the home of the Van Horn’s (directions below)  Robert sent this note….
Monica and I would like to plan on hosting as long as we do not get too much snow.  In your email, would you please ask people to call us Sunday by 5PM if they plan to come to make sure we are able to host.
Our phone number is 871 1838

CARE TAKING COMMITTEE MEETING!!!
A deep bow of gratitude to all of you who responded to the doodle poll. The day that worked best for  the most people was Sunday, January 31 at 2 PM. So we will meet at our house at that time. If you did not respond to the poll but would like to join us, please come. It will be wonderful to be able to look together at ways we can strengthen our sangha. I will be sending out more info before our meeting….in the meantime, please be thinking of ways that the Sangha might better support your practice. Thank you all for your willingness to support the Sangha.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE MARCH 5 DAY OF MINDFULNESS in Franklin, MA
Transforming Suffering – Finding True Refuge in Busy, Troubled Times –
This is always a lovely day. We can deepen our practice and enjoy being part of the larger community.
I have been invited to offer a Transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings at that time. If you know of anyone who would like to receive formal transmission, please let them know. The application is available at joannefriday.com/calendar…and needs to be returned to me by Feb 27. Reading Thay’s “Mindfulness Survival Kit” would be good preparation for anyone who is interested in receiving the Trainings. All of  the registration information is available at joannefriday.com/calendar.

UPDATE ON CAROL.
Carol sends her thanks for all of the prayers. Says she will be out of the hospital in a couple of days…she has been receiving excellent care and the ex-pat community there has been bringing food and taking good care of her. It sounds like there will be a long period of recovery…so please continue to send prayers and healing energy.

I was fortunate to attend a retreat for activists at the Blue Cliff Monastery last weekend. Here is the link to a video from the Sacred Justice retreat at Blue Cliff Monastery. It was so good to see so many people there involved in doing so many good things in order  for us to create a beloved community and live in harmony with each other and the earth. It was clear that taking care of our spiritual lives and our consciousness  – being the change we want to see in the world – helps us all take more skillful and effective action. They made a video of a QandA panel discussion. Here is the link to the video if you are interested.

sending much love,
Joanne
