7-29-17 Sangha Update – No gathering this 5th Sunday

“I’d love to wake up to complete silence, white sheets, and the smell of crisp air and roses.”
― Maria Elena

Metta (Love) Meditation
adapted from the Visuddhimagga

May I (you, we) be peaceful, happy and light in body and spirit.
May I (you, we) be safe and free from injury.
May I (you, we) be free from anger, afflictions, fear and anxiety.

May I (you, we) learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love.
May I (you, we) be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I (you, we ) learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving and delusion in myself.

May I (you, we) know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I (you, we) be able to live fresh, solid and free.
May I (you, we) be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all well and enjoying this silent night and sending metta to yourself and everyone!

This is just a reminder that tomorrow is the 5th Sunday so there is no gathering. We will be gathering the first Sunday in August at the UU Church in Peace Dale at 6 PM.

It was lovely to be together last Sunday. I had said I would send Thay’s phrases for metta practice…they are above. I also said I would send the link for his talk about the Effectiveness of Prayer. That can be found at tnhaudio.org then type “Effectiveness of Prayer” into the search box. There are lots off wonderful talks at that site. Enjoy!

Practice Opportunities…

There is a Book Club being sponsored by the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation…which is a wonderful resource. One of my favorite books is “The Sun, My Heart” which was a follow up book to “The Miracle of Mindfulness” with teachings by Brother Phap Hai and questions for reflection. The present book that is being studied is “One Buddha is Not Enough” The first nine chapters have been completed, the videos, questions for reflection and quotes are available at this link….

The monastics have invited lay people to come for work weekends to help prepare the monastery for the large August retreat.
If you are interested in helping in this way, I have included the information below OR GO TO https://www.bluecliffmonastery.org/schedule-of-events

Please continue to hold Eva, dorandecker@gmail.com, and Sandy sandralaub08@gmail.com in your metta. Both were able to be with us at our gathering and both said their children are getting good care… Please continue to keep them all in your hearts and prayers.

Remember you can communicate directly with the Sangha…sending prayer requests, announcements or other requests, and getting announcements about engaged practice opportunities..by signing up to be a part of the google group. Cindy oversees that list…so if you want to get connected, please contact Cindy at westnest5@verizon.net

The annual RI Community of Mindfulness Sangha Picnic will be held on Sept 30 at Colt State Park site#3
Bring your friends, family, songs, games, pets, and a vegetarian dish to share. It is usually a lovely time.

The movie about Thay and Plum Village will be comiing out in September…they are asking us to help to organize a showing…If you would like to help with this please let me know.

In the meantime, enjoy every moment.

with lots of metta for you,

What if God isnʼt a noun
to be empowered and worshiped
but a verb of creation
powered by love?

What if every single tree
drawn in primary school
is a sacred work of art
worthy of joyful notice?

What if our lives are built
on a web of kindness,
a net,
which holds everything living.

What if the rocks are alive
singing strength and courage;
from our feet right up to our heart?

What if we loved ourselves
as deeply as the mountain
caressed by water,
surrenders herself
into sand?

What if our most loved,
intra-national pastime
is a game of entertainment
where we all win?

What if no one aspired
to be a millionaire
and money no longer had power
but was simply a means of tender-ness.

What if transforming our world
by imagining it
actually make it happen?
