Sand Mandala Created at URI
It is the Mandala of Avalokiteshvara
The Bodhisattva of Compassion

The monks meditate on the mandala for three years to memorize the patterns
then they create the entire thing out of colored sand from memory.
A truly amazing concentration practice!

If you feel the need for motivation for your concentration practice …

We have our work cut out for us!

Dear Friends,

I hope that this finds you well and happy and enjoying these beautiful days and this amazing cosmos.

This is just a reminder that this Sunday there will be a gathering at 6 PM at the UU church at the Lily Pads on North Rd. in Peace Dale. Clare will facilitate and there will be a sitting meditation, sharing Thay’s teachings from the book, “Creating True Peace” , reciting the Five Mindfulness Trainings and sharing the Dharma.

On Sunday we will also be showing The film “Walk With Me” at the Cable Car Cinema at 1 and 4. The shows are sold out…if you have tickets, please remember to bring them to the theater. If you have tickets, but find you cannot go and would like for someone to use them, please write to the clear heart google group…it is the place for us to share that type of information directly with each other. If you want to be a member of that group, please contact Cindy West. at westnest5@gmail.com. There will be a walking meditation between the 2 showings from 3-4. So if you have tickets for the second show you might like to arrive at 3 if you would like to do walking meditation along the river with us.

A number of folks have asked me about receiving formal transmission of the Five Trainings. We are looking into organizing Transmission Ceremony. If you think you would like to receive formal transmission, please contact me.

There is still so much to be done in the aftermath of the storms we have had this fall. In the last Update I added information about ways to help the various states and islands. I just came upon another about ways to help PuertoRico which I have included below.

We were fortunate to be able to see Jane Goodall at URI as part of the Honors Colloquium.(they are held on Tuesday evenings http://web.uri.edu/hc/ ) She is a truly inspiring woman. She has done so much to help so many and raise our awareness of interbeing. The story of her life is the embodiment of Joseph Campbell’s advice to “Follow your bliss”. She was not motivated by a desire for fame or fortune, but by a love for animals. Her life story is very inspiring. She had 5,000 people ( many of them students) spellbound for 2 hours and received what seemed to be an endless standing ovation from everyone there. She has started a wonderful program for children, called Roots and Shoots… https://rootsandshoots.org which sounds wonderful. To water your seeds of joy, I am including a video clip that she shared…Enjoy!

with much love and many hugs,
Joanne
