springtime is coming!
(even as the ground is covered with snow)
Spring won’t let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again.
Sit quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself.
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the first signs of spring. We have been hearing the woodcocks doing their mating dance in the field across the street…a sure sign that even if snow is predicted, spring is on the way (along with some baby woodcocks!)
This is just a reminder that there will be a gathering of the Sangha this evening at 6 PM at our house – 725 Matunuck School House Rd, Wakefield. We will enjoy sitting meditation, I will offer some of the teachings and practices for maintaining our peace of mind in challenging times, and we will share the Dharma. I hope that you are able to be with us.
There are lots of opportunities to deepen our practice.
There is a wonderful opportunity to support some monastic and lay friends who are offering a hiking retreat of the Appalachian Trail. Please help if you are able…info below…
I have been invited to offer some retreats. There is some information about them below or at joannefriday.com/calendar
I hope you are able to be with us and in the meantime,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I have been very inspired by the students who are responding to the school shootings by demanding a better, safer world in which to grow up. There will be a rally in Providence next Saturday to support their March for Our Lives – The R I Community of Mindfulness will participate. If you would like to take part, all are welcome. The details are below….
Watching and listening to these bright, capable, articulate young people was reminded of this beautiful version of Heal the World….let’s do it!
with much love and the joy of the world lightening up for you,
Gather by 12:45 p.m.
at the Smith Street side of the State House
We will process together to the south side of the State House
Look for our banner (see below)

Dear Sangha family,
Hope you are having a great new beginning.
This year Joaquin and I are helping some monastics from Plum Village organize a new kind of pilgrimage/hiking mindfulness retreat in the wilderness. We will go along the Appalachian trail for 7 weeks. Starting in Blue Cliff Monastery April 8th, 2018 and finishing with a Peace Walk on the Mall in Washington DC.
We have the aspiration to do the retreat in a donation/dana basis. In order to support this we created a fundraiser campaign.
Please think about supporting us in however small or large way, and by sharing the link to our fundraiser campaign with friends and family.

Our dream is to continue to help bring people closer to themselves and to Mother Earth.
Thank you for your time, and we hope to see you soon.
